What is your earliest rugby memory?

1995 rugby world cup - as young as I was, the excitement and spirit of the adults was contagious and has stayed with me for a very long time.

What has been your career highlight to date?

Winning the Currie Cup in 2012, as my first big win in my career, was very special. My three-week old son fit perfectly inside that trophy… and also winning the Vodacom URC in 2022, was a particular highlight as i had just returned to Cape Town after being away for seven years - it seemed a positive premonition for more great things to come.

Who has had the biggest impact on your career and why?

It is hard to mention one specific person, there is a couple at different times of my career. My family has been an amazing inspiration to achieve and to lead by example. Matt Proudfoot was my coach at Varsity and was the one to lay the foundation for my professional career. At the moment playing under Dobbo is a privilege and an honour, as he coaches me both on and off the field.

What do you like to do when you are not playing rugby?

Since ‘they dont know what we know’, the schedule of professional rugby is very hectic and we often miss many significant days. So in between tournaments I spend as much time with my family as possible.

Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?

My wife, the support she gives me is amazing! She has not missed a game, often sits patiently listening to my personal commentary and has never failed to be my biggest supporter, both on and off the field.

What is your favourite city you have visited and why?

While there is no place like home, Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities abroad. Whether visiting for a match, or exploring the castles with the family, it holds a special place in my heart. It also doesn't hurt that they have really good whisky.

What is your favourite meal?

Braaivleis. Whether it moos or bleats, I am a carnivore at heart. And whatever my wife cooks.

Who was your rugby hero growing up?

Os Du Rant.

If you could invite any five people to a braai, who would they be?

Os Du Rant, my all-time rugby hero Elon Musk, for his entrepreneurial, brilliant business brain. Brock Lesnar, my namesake, to make sure he knows i am doing the name proud. Gordon Ramsey - mostly so that I wont have to cook. Neil Armstrong, because there is a certain myth that needs to be busted.

Which DHL Stormers player do you think is most likely to become a coach one day and why?

Ruhan Nel. The way he thinks about the game, strategically and practically, he would make a great coach. He is a natural leader and coaching would be a logical next step.
