WP Mentorship Programme launched at DHL Newlands
The programme seeks to ensure that the union has a healthy pipeline of talent coming through the junior structures, with the senior players able to provide insight into what it takes to get to the top of the game and more importantly understand the WP Way – in terms of culture, playing style and values.
With so many quality young players coming through the Western Province Rugby Union’s youth structures every year, this programme will help ensure that the players in the system are able to make the most of their talent.
High Performance Manager Greg Hechter addressed a group of promising schoolboy players, parents and the mentors from the DHL Stormers on the pitch following the 29-14 victory against the Jaguares, after which the respective pairs were introduced to one another.
“It is crucial to involve our senior players in the development of the top juniors in our system, as they have so much to offer in terms of guidance.
“I’m excited to see these youngsters grow their affinity and passion for the Blue and White stripes and want to make WP their rugby home of choice through this programme,” said Hechter.
