DHL Stormers stand together with Newlands Firefighters

The DHL Stormers visited Table Mountain National Parks’ Newlands Fire Base in Newlands Forest on Friday.

Following a morning conditioning session in the forest which saw the players hit the trails and do some hill sprints, the wider training squad was shown around the facilities.

While the players are looked up to as heroes by the Faithful, it was fantastic for them to meet some real life superheroes in the brave firefighters.

Table Mountain National Park Fire Manager Philip Prins and Dean Ferreira of NCC Environmental Services showed the players around and explained exactly what goes into fighting wildfires on Table Mountain.

The squad watched a Huey helicopter land on the helipad in preparation for the Western Cape Summer wildfire season, before taking a closer look.

“It was great to have the DHL Stormers here to support our firefighters who often do not get the recognition they deserve.

“With wildfire season about to start we want to encourage the public to be vigilant and report all wildfires. Simply dial 107 to report any fire,” Prins said.

The DHL Stormers players presented Prins and his team with a signed jersey and then spent some time with the firefighters who will be tasked with keeping Table Mountain free of fire this wildfire season.
