DHL Stormers out to tame Brumbies
The DHL Stormers know that they face a major challenge when the unbeaten Brumbies visit DHL Newlands on Saturday.
The Canberra side have made an impressive start to the season, scoring 15 tries in their three consecutive victories against the Hurricanes, Waratahs and Force, so they have gathered some considerable momentum ahead of their trip to Cape Town.
The two-time Vodacom Super Rugby champions have a formidable track record over the years and their current team is littered with Wallabies players which should make for an explosive clash at DHL Newlands this weekend.
DHL Stormers Head Coach Robbie Fleck said that his team will put in specific preparations this week to handle the threats that the Brumbies will pose in the set-pieces, at the breakdown and with their tactical kicking game.
“We have identified one or two things we need to work on this week, both in terms of ourselves and the Brumbies.
“We understand that we are going to be under pressure in terms of our exits, at set-piece and at the breakdown,” he said.
The Brumbies came out on top the last time the two teams met in the 2015 Vodacom Super Rugby quarterfinal at DHL Newlands, and Fleck said that while they can take some lessons from that game, it is a new team and a new season which is their sole focus.
“It is a new team and they have also got a new side, what happened last year happened, I think we can learn from it in the sense that we know what is coming.
“We have spoken about it for a number of weeks – it is the breakdown with [David] Pockock and [Scott] Fardy, and Stephen Moore, they are going to put us under massive pressure there.
“And then there is set-piece, their contesting line-out was outstanding in the quarterfinal and their kicking game was outstanding,” he added.

After consultation with City of Cape Town Health Officials and in line with legislation, no smoking of any kind will be allowed in the stadium which has been declared a non-smoking facility.
Previously the stadium featured four designated smoking areas in the corners of the ground, with smoking in the stands prohibited, but this is no longer allowed and all forms of smoking (including e-cigarettes) in any part of the stadium now in contravention of the stadium rules.
