DHL Stormers Match Reports

The DHL Stormers staged a stunning comeback at Thomond Park to claim a 27-21 win against Munster in their table-topping Vodacom United Rugby Championship clash on Saturday.

Having trailed by 15 points at the break, the DHL Stormers scored all of the points in the second half, with three tries enough to see them make it six wins from six and maintain their position at the top of the standings.

The visitors were down a man early when Connor Evans was shown a yellow card for an incident off the ball, but they still managed to open the scoring with a Jurie Matthee penalty.

Munster responded with a try from skipper Tadhg Beirne before a second Matthee penalty brought the DHL Stormers back within one point.

A second yellow card to Marcel Theunissen for repeated infringements saw Munster score their second as replacement John Hodnett scrambled over and the referee and TMO ruled that he had not crawled over to score.

The third try also came with Theunissen off the field, with Jack Crowley finishing and adding his third conversion.

The DHL Stormers finished the first half in the ascendency, but could not land the killer blow as they were frustrated by turnovers at crucial times to go into the break trailing 21-6.

The visitors brought on all six forward replacements early in the second half and they made their presence felt immediately.

A try was disallowed after a technical call in a preceding maul, but there was no stopping Adre Smith as he powered over for the opening try just short of the hour mark.

Munster were down to 14 when Gavin Coombes was shown yellow for a deliberate trip in the build-up to the try and while it took another nine minutes, the DHL Stormers eventually made the advantage count.

The forwards set the platform before Matthee found wing Dylan Maart with a pinpoint cross-kick, for the wing to score a sensational debut try and bring his team back within a point at 21-20.

They took the lead soon afterwards as Ruhan Nel intercepted in his own half and raced away to score under the poles.

That was enough to complete an incredible comeback win to keep their unbeaten start to the season going and stay at the top of the standings.
