Saracens serious about Vodacom Stormers’ warm-up
Saracens, currently coached by former Australian and 2007 Springbok technical advisor Eddie Jones, are currently participating in the Guinness Premiership and European Challenge Cup and will arrive in Cape Town following their fixture against Mont de Marsan in France. Saracens will tour with a full strength squad, with the exception of injured athletes and players competing in the 2009 Six Nations Championship. The Saracens squad currently includes ex Stormers stalwart Cobus Visagie, South Africans Wikus Van Heerden and Brad Barritt and talents like Chris Jack, Glen Jackson and Andy Farrell.
“We are treating the tour as an important part of our preparation for the final stages of the 2008/2009 European season,” said Saracens coach Eddie Jones. “The Vodacom Super 14 is an incredibly demanding competition and the Vodacom Stormers an extremely competitive team, with a lot of internationals and an astute coaching team. Despite it being pre-season, I expect them to be hungry, fit, and prepared.”
“Saracens is a class team with some awesome international talent and a fantastic coach,” said Vodacom Stormers Head Coach Rassie Erasmus. “Playing a side well into their season and at the top of their game provides us with valuable match preparation for the rigours of this year’s Vodacom Super 14.”
The fixture will, subject to scheduling arrangements, be the first in an annual series of fixtures between the two sides, to be played in January/February of each year.
