DHL Stormers captain Kolisi up for Laureus award
DHL Stormers captain Siya Kolisi has been nominated for the Laureus Sporting Moment of the Year Award for the month of July, after becoming the first African black player to captain the Springboks.
This award is voted for by fans around the world and is presented at the annual Laureus World Sports Awards, which is the most prestigious awards event on the international sporting calendar.
After excelling as a schoolboy talent in Port Elizabeth, Kolisi made the move to Cape Town in 2010 when he attended the Western Province Rugby Institute and represented DHL Western Province U19.
He would go on to make his DHL Western Province debut in 2011 and DHL Stormers debut in 2012, before first earning Springbok colours in 2013.
He was appointed DHL Stormers captain by Head Coach Robbie Fleck in 2017 and first led the Springboks against England at Emirates Airline Park in 2018.
The DHL Stormers captain’s prolific rise to the top serves as an inspiration for young aspiring players in difficult circumstances who want to make it to the highest level of the game.
