Greeff doubtful for Reds game

Coach Gert Smal gave the fullback a 50 percent chance of being included in the 22-man squad for Saturday’s important Super 12 match. Greeff has recovered well from a torn hip muscle injury, but said he was still feeling the injury. He had hoped to be ready within two or three days.

Smal, however, said if the player was fully fit, he would consider him. “Nobody in this team is in a comfort zone and if a player is ready, he will be selected.”

The Stormers will name their side for the first match of the overseas leg of their campaign tomorrow, but it is widely expected that a few changes will be made to the side that played so well against the Bulls.

The Rossouw brothers, Chris and Pieter, have both recovered from injuries. The same goes for hooker Pieter Dixon. Flyhalf Chris Rossouw suffered a broken nose against the Brumbies, while wing Pieter had problems with his neck. Dixon had a fractured eye socket.

Smal said he wants as much experience in his side for this game. Therefore Chris Rossouw is expected to return at the expense of Gaffie du Toit, who could move back to fullback. Pieter Rossouw will probably take his place at wing, with Gus Theron moving back to the bench and Dixon should take over from the promising David Brits.

The coach is not too concerned about the lack of match fitness of Rossouw and Dixon. “Chris was only out for two weeks and Dixie has worked very hard.”
