Kobus advises charges to use defeat as motivation
That is what coach Kobus van der Merwe told his charges ahead of their clash with the Australian outfit. He said he was very disappointed with the way the Stormers played last Saturday.
“That was an ideal opportunity to get our first win in Canberra and improve our log position and we were not able to maximise it.
“We simply did not have enough ball to play with. At the same time I think our defensive effort was commendable in that we had to repel Brumbies attacks for some time. We gave away a few silly penalties that were converted into points and gave them momentum.”
Van der Merwe was happy with the defensive effort, but admitted that crucial missed tackles cost them dearly. “On the whole I think the defence was good but we let a few slip and they proved crucial, its most likely timing and communication.”
Asked how he is going to motivate the players for the game against the Waratahs, Van der Merwe said he told them to lift their heads. “The game is over and there is nothing we can do about it, no matter how disappointed they might be.
“They must use the defeat as motivation for the Waratahs match. The senior players have played a vital role in keeping the mood positive which is extremely important.”
