Vodacom Super 14 2008 Draw Unveiled
SA Rugby MD Jonathan Stones says the Vodacom Super 14 in 2008 promises so much on the back of the Rugby World Cup.
“With all three national teams favourites to do well in France, the players are sure to carry their experience into the Vodacom Super 14 competition,” Stones said.
“Based on the strength of the South African teams and the step-up in intensity by the newest of the franchises the Vodacom Cheetahs and the Western Force in 2007, the scene is set for an extremely competitive season next year,” he added.
There will be ten South African derby games in the 2008 season, starting with two local matches on the opening Saturday.
The Super Rugby competition began in 1996 with the Crusaders, the most successful team, having won six titles (2006, 2005, 2002, 2000,1999,1998). The Brumbies are the only Australian outfit to have won a Super title, doing so in 2001 and 2004. The 2007 Vodacom Super 14 title to the Vodacom Bulls was the first for a South African team.
