The DHL Stormers scored five tries on their way to a 29-10 win against the Emirates Lions in their Vodacom United Rugby Championship encounter at DHL Stadium on Saturday.

It was a valuable five points for the home side, who will be looking to back that up in the second Summer Series match against the Hollywoodbets Sharks next week.

The first try was a textbook maul from the forward pack, with hooker Joseph Dweba crashing over to score.

The visitors were reduced to 14 when lock Ruben Schoeman was shown a red card for a dangerous clear-out on Manie Libbok.

Libbok featured in the next try soon after as a signature cross-kick saw Suleiman Hartzenberg finish out wide.

Dweba made it a double with a carbon-copy maul try just before half-time, which saw the DHL Stormers go into the break 15-0 up.

The Emirates Lions scored their first try early in the second half, with Edwill van der Merwe chipping ahead and finishing a counter-attack.

The Johannesburg side went down to 13 shortly afterwards when centre Manny Ras was shown yellow and the DHL Stormers took advantage immediately, with Leolin Zas scoring the bonus point try.

The Emirates Lions had a second try from a set line-out move, with replacement hooker Franco Marais scoring.

The DHL Stormers had the final say as a well-worked team try was finished by a charging Neethling Fouche to seal the win.
