DHL Stormers will ‘keep fighting’

The DHL Stormers are determined to harness the fighting spirit of their comeback win in Newport when they face Connacht in Galway on Saturday.

Despite trailing 21-16 at the hour mark at Rodney Parade, the DHL Stormers came up with 25 unanswered points to claim a crucial bonus-point win on the road.

The five log points saw the DHL Stormers remain in fifth position on the standings, with 10 teams still in the running for the top eight play-offs places with two rounds remaining in the regular season.

Director of Rugby John Dobson said that the fight they showed at the end will be key as they face another big challenge at the Dexcom Stadium this weekend.

“We will keep fighting, we have put ourselves in the frame now to be there in the top eight in the play-offs.

“Galway is one of the most notoriously difficult places to play. Connacht are fighting for a top eight finish, so we will have to be 50 to 100 percent better than we were against the Dragons.

“We will be better next week, we have got an eight-day turnaround and it is Galway in May and not Galway in November or December, so it is going to have to be and should be much better next week,” he said.

Dobson paid credit to the Dragons RFC, who managed to put his team under immense pressure in the first hour.

“The Dragons put us under a lot of pressure, they were excellent for that first hour.

“I thought we lacked intensity, even our body language at times in that first half.

“We must be good enough to impose our game on a team like the Dragons and we didn’t do that for a long time.

Despite that, the team dug deep and came away with a crucial result, which Dobson believes will make them stronger going forward.

“It was important to win away, but second the character, we saw the DHL Stormers fight and transition game. The players did very well to turn things around at the end there,” he added.
