Know your opposition: London Irish
The DHL Stormers will be looking to do the double against London Irish when the two teams meet at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford on Sunday.
The English Premiership team visited Cape Town in mid-December and the DHL Stormers managed to secure a bonus-point 34-14 win at DHL Stadium, but it will be an altogether different challenge in their Heineken Champions Cup clash in London on Sunday.
After that defeat in Cape Town, London Irish beat Premiership pace-setters Saracens and have since recorded home wins against both Bath and the Bristol Bears.
That recent form shows that it is difficult for any team to come away from the Gtech Community Stadium with a win, so the DHL Stormers will have their work cut out for them.
Established in 1898, London Irish became a professional rugby club in 1996. Known as ‘The Exiles’ the club was established aa a sporting club for Irishmen in London.
In 2018, Irish swooped to bring Declan Kidney to the club – the former Ireland national coach and 2009 IRB Head Coach of the Year.
Kidney is the Director of Rugby and takes charge of a squad which features Australian internationals Adam Coleman and Rob Simmons, as well as former Argentina captain Agustin Creevy as well as South Africans Mike Willemse and Benhard Janse van Rensburg.
