In the big news on Monday, fullback Jaco Taute won’t be considered for his team’s second match of the season – against the Sharks in Durban this coming weekend – after suffering a knock to his testicles.

Taute has been hospitalised for observation, with Coetzee explaining: “It’s quite an awkward injury. He will be observed and we will make a call on his availability (moving forward) after this weekend.”

Centre Juan de Jongh, who missed the Bulls clash with a hamstring injury, rejoined training on Monday but a full call on his participation – against the Sharks – will be made after taking part in a full training session on Tuesday.

“The reason I don’t get too excited about the return of players is that I want to see Juan participate in full training and then I will be convinced that he is fit (to play),” said Coetzee.

“We’ll see from tomorrow (Tuesday) when the hard sessions start.”

Meanwhile, Springbok flyhalf Peter Grant was back at DHL Stormers at training on Monday – the domestic Japanese season having ended at the weekend.

“It’s brilliant having Peter back, we will see how it goes (this week),” said Coetzee. “We’ve made a few changes since last year’s Super Rugby campaign, so we look forward to seeing him react to that at training this week.”
