‘Zero complacency’ for DHL Stormers
DHL Stormers Forwards Coach Russell Winter says that there will be no room for complacency in their Vodacom Super Rugby clash with the Western Force in Perth this weekend.
While the 57 points scored against the Rebels in Melbourne last week was a DHL Stormers franchise record, Winter says that nothing can be taken for granted and the focus within the team is making another step up on Saturday.
“There is going to be zero complacency from us, we have just got to make sure that we do our job and we improve every week.
“We are going to have to be very clinical in our approach if we want to improve on last week’s performance,” he said.
A win in Perth on Saturday would guarantee a home quarterfinal at DHL Newlands, but Winter says that the squad is determined not to be distracted by anything as they seek to continue building momentum.
“We have put complete focus on ourselves, we don’t want to worry about who is below us on the log, we just want to make sure that we win all of our remaining games. Every game from now on in is a must-win game for us.
“If we want to achieve our goals, we have to make sure we win all of our remaining games,” he said.
Winter said that whilst it was encouraging to score seven tries against the Rebels, there are still some areas which can improve, and which they have been working hard on in training this week.
“We want to build on this team, our culture and the way we want to play and let them [opposition] worry about us.
“We realise that we were a little bit weak in some areas of our game and we have given that some good attention,” he said.
