“After consultation with the Vodacom WP team management and other stakeholders, we have decided to call off the match” said Vodacom Stormers Head Coach, Rassie Erasmus.

“We have been preparing the team since November last year and have incorporated enough full contact sessions into our training schedule to be comfortable that the players are contact fit.”

“We used the game against Boland last week to the test combinations and were happy with the result.”

“Most of our injured players are coming back on line and the potential of sustaining further injuries in warm-up games is simply not worth the risk for us, given our current state of readiness,” said Erasmus.

Having had a tough pre-season schedule with two warm-up games against Boland already played and a further fixture scheduled for 6 February against the Eagles, Jerome Paarwater, Head Coach of the Vodacom WP, Vodacom Cup team was also happy with the decision. “Our pre-season training is progressing well and we are comfortable with our state of readiness and our ability to prepare without this game. At this early stage of the season, the break this weekend is indeed needed.”

The Vodacom Stormers take on the Vodacom Bulls at Newlands in their opening Vodacom Super 14 fixture on 16 February.
