“They proved me wrong” – Erasmus

The former Springbok looseforward has settled in Cape Town and has been actively grilling the Vodacom Stormers squad into shape for just over a month. The squad spent two weeks in George during December, mainly focusing on fitness and conditioning, and basic structures for the 2008 campaign.

“Coming into the set up, from another team, one has certain perceptions about the (Stormers) players and team,” said Erasmus looking back over the last month at the helm. “I’m happy to say that they have proved me wrong on most accounts,” he admits with a smile. “I saw this at the camp. Their willingness to work hard, to try new things or different things was great.”

“The way in which they responded to the new coaching team also happened a lot quicker than I anticipated,” said Erasmus of his team.

Erasmus was content with what was achieved during the December training camp, but wouldn’t reveal too many rugby specifics about what Stormers supporters could expect to see on 16 February. “One will never be totally satisfied, but we achieved a lot on camp. What’s important now is to take our form, fitness and attitude at training onto the Super 14 playing field.”

“It’s a bit early to talk game specifics, but a big goal we striving towards involves attitude. Never say die. That’s what we’re working towards,” Erasmus.
