Record at Newlands against Vodacom Stormers

17 years ago News

The seventh-placed Stormers host the third-placed Hurricanes at Newlands on Saturday at 17h05.

The Stormers face a tough challenge to break a winning drought at home against the Hurricanes, whom they last beat at Newlands in 2002, winning 40-13. In 2004, the Hurricanes scored a 25-19 win and in 2006, they scored two tries in the final five minutes to secure a 23-19 win.

Each side has won five of their last ten meetings against each other, the Stormers having won the most recent clash in Palmerston North in 2007, 30-17. That victory came after one of their better performances of last year’s campaign but much has changed since to give hope that they will taste success at home again.

The Hurricanes are a dynamic combination of raw power and fine skills and they will provide a stern test for the hosts. Their demolition of the Bulls provided enough evidence of their capabilities but if the Stormers can build on their first half showing over the Cheetahs last week they will continue their march up the table.
