Quick tap with Wandisile Simelane
Midfielder Wandisile Simelane told us about his favourite city, footballers who could play in the backline and teammates he would take to a music festival.
How have you enjoyed your first few months in Cape Town as a DHL Stormer?
It has been amazing, first of all, the crowd at every home game, the atmosphere and how they rally and get behind us is really something special. Cape Town is an amazing city to stay in and our motto is to try and make the people of Cape Town smile which is wonderful, it really does help bring the city together.
You were snubbed last week when Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu picked his dream five-a-side team, how did you take that?
Yeah unfortunately Sacha has no idea that I would take that entire five-a-side team on my own, but that’s a story for another day.
Which footballers do you think would have made good rugby players and why?
I don’t think many footballers would make it in the forward pack, but here is my backline: 9 Luka Modric, 10 Lionel Messi 11 Mo Salah 12 Virgil van Dijk 13 Kevin de Bruyne 14 Cristiano Ronaldo 15 Marcus Rashford.
You are on tour at the moment, which is your favourite city you have visited and why?
The best city I have ever been to on a rugby tour has to be Singapore. In the last couple of seasons of Super Rugby we played the Sunwolves there. It is humid, but the city is amazing and very safe and welcoming.
You are also into your music, which of your teammates would you invite to a Hip Hop festival with you?
Probably Sacha, even though he didn’t pick me for his five-a-side team. Will Markwick our Head of Athletic Development has some swagger, then there are some gangster rap guys like Hacjivah Dayimani on the list then probably Ben Loader as well.
