An extended DHL Stormers squad scored nine tries in an opposed training session with Maties played in sweltering conditions in Stellenbosch on Saturday.

The early kick-off meant that the heat was on throughout for both squads, with valuable gametime under the belt for everyone involved.

The first try came from hooker JJ Kotze, who forced his way over from close range following a maul.

Centre Wandisile Simelane then scored two tries, showing good awareness to grab an intercept and then following that up with another five-pointer soon afterwards.

Young flyhalf Kyle Smith scored the fourth try to cap off the first half, with the students showing good resilience on defence to keep the DHL Stormers squad from adding further to their tally.

Imad Khan was at fullback and joined the line superbly to finish off a try early in the second half following an initial break in midfield from Damian Markus.

Simelane scored in the corner to make it a hat-trick as the replacements flooded on and it was scrumhalf Godlen Masimla to score next just after the hour mark.

Markus goosestepped his way over for the eighth try and had a hand in the ninth too as wing Jared Africa finished under the poles for the final try, with the students ending scoreless.
