DHL Stormers out to ‘keep the ball rolling’
DHL Stormers co-captain Juan de Jongh says his side is determined to back up their opening victory over the Vodacom Bulls when they face the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
De Jongh’s charges got their 2016 Vodacom Super Rugby campaign off to an encouraging start when they picked up a 33-9 victory over the Pretoria side at DHL Newlands last week, but the experienced centre would like to see them make the most of it by delivering an even better performance against a dangerous Toyota Cheetahs outfit.
“We made a good start against the Bulls, but we need to take that momentum from the second half of that game into this one to keep the ball rolling,” he said.
Although the DHL Stormers have not got the desired results in Bloemfontein in recent years, De Jongh said that his team is not dwelling on the past but rather focusing on what is possible this weekend.
“We are not focusing on the past, it is all about this weekend. They are a different team, so we are starting on a clean slate with them,” he said.
He is expecting a fierce onslaught from a Toyota Cheetahs side that will be deermined to perform at home.
“They are going to come out firing and we know that, it is not something that is going to shock us.
“It is just important to make sure that we are focused and solid in ourselves because it is going to be a hell of a battle out there,” he added.
DHL Stormers Head Coach Robbie Fleck said that the focus this week has been on their own game, and growing from the victory in Round One last week.
“It is a new team, a new management and we just want to keep improving and hopefully come back with a win.
“It is about us, we have had a good week, and when we prepare well as a team then we play well.
“We have said that we are going to stay humble and work incredibly hard, regardless of what is going on outside of the camp. It is important that we stay focused,” he said.
