DHL Stormers expecting fierce Jaguares at DHL Newlands

The DHL Stormers are expecting a fierce onslaught from last year’s Vodacom Super Rugby finalists the Jaguares when the two teams square off at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

The DHL Stormers are back on home turf and looking for their fourth straight win of the season, but they know that they will face a motivated Jaguares team which will be looking for their first win at DHL Newlands in what will be their last game at the ground.

While pleased to have got away from Johannesburg with a last-gasp win against the Emirates Lions last week, DHL Stormers Assistant Coach Dawie Snyman knows that they will have to lift their standards significantly if they are to continue their winning ways.

“This team has a lot more than it has shown, we can certainly produce a lot more than we have. As a team we want to take it a step up.

“It was great to get the win last week and especially with the way we did it with that last try, but we felt in terms of our performance we can still get better, which is quite exciting,” he said.

Snyman is expecting a tough examination from the Jaguares, who have wins against the Emirates Lions and Reds under their belts as they look to repeat their run to the final last year.

“They are a tough side, they were second last year as finalists, so they know how to win big game and we will have to be on top of our game.

“They have kept the same standards that they had last year, it is a physical team, they are good at set-piece, defensively they will put you under pressure and we know if you give them loose possession they have got some great runners at the back,” he said.

The DHL Stormers have welcomed back scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies and loose forward Jaco Coetzee back to full training this week and both are expected to make their return against the Jaguares.
