DHL Stormers 28(13) – Lions 6(6)
The Stormers defence was again solid, keeping the Lions tryless despite Koster, Steenkamp and Aplon being binned in the 67th, 75th and 78th minutes, for repeated infringements.
“We will be working with Jaco Peyper to understand the new law amendments and interpretations.” said the coach. “Clearly we can’t afford to pick up yellow cards.”
Whilst it’s still early in the season and there were mistakes, there were some enterprising periods of play, seeing Aplon cross the line twice and Kitshoff once.
The coach was also happy with how the new and younger players were adapting to the team and game at this level. “Depth is crucial in this competition and I am pleased with their performance.” said the coach.
There were no serious injuries and the focus now shifts to game two of the DHL Pre-Season Series, against the Cheetahs at Newlands on Saturday.
Quizzed by the media after the match on the appointment of Heyneke Meyer as the new Bok coach Allister Coetzee said ”It’s a very good appointment and I would like to congratulate him. He will always have my support.”
