DHL make it easier to Donate to Educate with DHL Stormers and Shawco
All supporters attending games at DHL Newlands this season are requested to bring along any unwanted items of clothing and deposit them into the 8 marked and manned bins at the main entrances to the stadium. DHL Express is also offering all its customers a free collection service – companies are able to call their service representative and organise a collection free of charge.
The aim of the initiative is to generate funds for education and training initiatives and to help create jobs.
The clothing collection will then be:
• Sold at Shawco retail outlets
• Sold, at base price, to identified township entrepreneurs, who will be trained and assisted via Shawco’s business student initiative, Siyaya, to set up new start-up entrepreneurial businesses.
All surplus funds generated by Shawco will be utilized to further identify educational programmes.
Commenting on the initiative DHL Stormers captain Schalk Burger said, “As a team we think this is a great initiative. We all have old, unwanted clothing and it’s great to think it can make a difference to many, whilst assisting in training and education and creating a few jobs. Clean out your cupboards and bring something along to the game. You can make a difference.”
Charles Brewer, head of DHL Sub-Saharan Africa added, “As part of our corporate ethos and sponsorships, it is important to us as a company and individuals to make a real difference in the environments in which we operate. This programme not only supports some worthy causes, but also assists in education and creating jobs, all real issues in this country. We all have old and unwanted clothing, bring it along and help make a difference.”
