Canal Walk Schools Day @ Newlands: 30 March 2011

Canal Walk Schools Day @ Newlands: 30 March 2011

14 years ago News

Four u9 Mini rugby matches and one u13 fixture preceded the five u19 matches between ten of the Western Province’s top u19 rugby teams. Despite the weather, the players in action showcased some of the Province’s top school boy talent.

The Canal Walk Schools day @ Newlands is an important day for the boys participating in this event. It is not just about the rugby. The opportunity to play at Newlands, warming up in the same change rooms that the senior players in the Province use is just a massive occasion.

Despite the weather, the event was well attended and the support and cheerleaders had a field day in chanting their war-cries and sing-songs. Paarl Boys High for the 3rd consecutive year was the winners in the best supporter’s category with Tygerberg High being the runners-up.

Hopefully this event will contribute towards producing players for the future and supporters through their families and friends to the benefit of our beloved game rugby.

The feedback we have received from the sponsors, participants and spectators were very positive and we are convinced that this event will contribute to the support, loyalty of youngsters and the general public towards WP Rugby.

The sponsor’s reaction:

“Canal Walk Shopping Centre is proud to be part of the Schools Day Rugby event. We have built up strong relationships in the last three years and this event has grown and improved every year. Schools Rugby Day has brought together schools in the Western Cape and given scholars the opportunity to play at the very prestigious Newlands stadium. The Canal Walk Foundation has assisted two schools from the day with a rugby training program. We look forward to working together again next year making this event the most important on all school calendars.”
