Bax to bolster Vodacom Stormers
The Stormers tackle the Highlanders in Dunedin on Friday and they are reeling from a spate of recent injuries.
Bax played some fantastic rugby for the Ikeys in the Varsity Cup series and can play flyhalf, centre, wing and fullback.
Captain Jean de Villiers will be undergoing a scan on Monday after sustaining a groin injury in the fourth minute of Saturday’s defeat to the Hurricanes in Wellington. According to Stormers spokesperson Frikkie Erasmus the Springbok centre was on Sunday still experiencing discomfort.
Lock stalwart Adriaan Fondse is on his way back to Cape Town after aggravating a wrist injury against the Hurricanes. Erasmus told reporters Fondse could be out for as long as 12 weeks.
Good news however is that Springbok star Andries Bekker should be ready to be considered for Friday’s game. He joined the team last week in Wellington but was not 100% over the toe injury that prevented him from departing with his team-mates for New Zealand and Australia.
More good news is that centre Gcobani Bobo should be ready for the final game on tour after injuring an ankle on Saturday. He was forced to leave the field.
Coach Rassie Erasmus told reporters on Saturday that De Villiers would definitely be out for the next game, but he was not sure how long the midfield wizard would have to spend on the sideline.
“If you told me at the start of the season that we would have so many injuries against the Hurricanes I wouldn’t believe it. I am not looking for excuses but 13 of our first-choice players were out of the team, so it was no surprise that we battled.”
