The 3 day camp is being held at Walkabout River Lodge outside Swellendam. “The camp is an opportunity for the squad and management to break away and do final preparation in advance of the 2006 season,” said Vodacom Stormers coach Kobus Van Der Merwe. “Because the camp is being held later than usual, the squad will have already completed much of its skills and fitness preparation and as such the camp will serve as a final focus and consolidation of all the pre-season training and preparation.”
“The Vodacom Super 14 is arguably one of the toughest rugby competitions in existence and this time together as a group should serve to bond the squad and get us to experience teamwork outside of the context of the actual game of rugby,” said Vodacom Stormers captain De Wet Barry. “It will also help us prepare both mentally and physically for the challenges ahead.”
The Vodacom Stormers play a final warm up game against the Southern Spears in Wellington on Saturday 28 January. Kick–off is at 18h00.
