Stormers set the record straight
“When players of colour are not given a fair chance at Super 14 level, one has to question the manner in which South African coaches, in this case Erasmus, operate.
The principle of providing equal opportunities to all players in this country was one of the most significant statements De Villiers made on the day he was appointed Bok coach,” wrote Ashfak Mohamed in his Ruck & Maul Column in Monday’s Cape Times (26 February 2007, page 27). “Erasmus has now gone against the principle espoused by De Villiers.”
WP Rugby have come out in support of the Vodacom Stormers coach, strongly objecting against the allegations that Rassie Erasmus has “now gone against the principle espouse by De Villiers.”
WP Rugby would not in any way support the view that the Stormers team had been selected without providing equal opportunities to their players. The statement uttered by Mohamed in his column is simply not true. WP Rugby supports the process Rassie Erasmus has embarked upon to turn around the fortunes of the Stormers.
