Jean hungry for more success

The Stormers broke their winning drought in style by beating the Reds 34-16 and in the process scoring four tries to earn a bonus point. But captain Jean de Villiers warned his charges that the easy part of the tour is over now.

The Cape franchise tackles the Chiefs in Hamilton on Friday. The Chiefs on Saturday fought back to deny the Cheetahs a win and that second half effort proved to De Villiers that they cannot underestimate the Kiwi’s.

“They have fantastic individuals; players with great finishing ability. We can’t afford to give them any attacking opportunities,” warned the centre.

But he admitted that there was no lack of confidence in the camp after the Brisbane performance. “We believe we can play better than we did against the Reds. We still made too many errors but it is fantastic to have our first win behind us.”

The Springbok star said after the match against the Reds his team was now aiming to win all four their matches on tour. On Monday he said they believe that goal is not a far-fetched dream.

“We believe we can do it. To play the Blues in Auckland will be an extremely tough assignment. They are in good form,” the Springbok centre added.

The Stormers are currently in Auckland, where they prepare before travelling to Hamilton on Thursday. They then return to Auckland for the match against the Blues before tackling the Western Force in Perth on March 28.

The Stormers team for the match against the Chiefs will be announced on Wednesday.
