Vodacom Stormers club in for Chris Burger/Petro Jackson Fund
Several players will join members of the public at a golf day aimed at raising money for the work of the Fund.
The Chris Burger/Petro Jackson Players’ Fund pays homage to two young players who died playing the game they loved.
In 1980 Chris Burger broke his neck and died in a Currie Cup rugby match in Bloemfontein, while Petro Jackson, a young player from Kylemore in Stellenbosch, died during a match in 1989.
When Burger passed away, a Fund was set up in his name called the Chris Burger Fund and likewise, following Jackson’s death, a Fund was set up in his name.
In 1992, the two Funds were united to form the Chris Burger/Petro Jackson Players’ Fund as it is known today.
For 26 years the Fund has fulfilled its two core objectives, firstly to assist the unfortunate victims of serious rugby injuries, and secondly to develop and implement initiatives that aim to educate, inform and create awareness with the purpose of making rugby safer and thereby reducing the number of injuries.
Vodacom’s support for the golf day forms part of the company’s care awareness objectives and is consistent with the slogan – Vodacom Cares.
Golfers stand the chance of winning a Vodacom Connect USB card with starter pack, a membership to the Vodacom Golf Village and a Test match ticket to watch the Springboks play Italy at Newlands.
