DHL Stormers fight back to down Ulster

8 months ago Uncategorized

The DHL Stormers showed incredible composure and fight to come back and defeat Ulster 13-7 in a hard-fought Vodacom United Rugby Championship clash at DHL Stadium on Saturday night.

Having trailed for most of the game, the DHL Stormers refused to say die and were carried to voctory by the incredible support of the 24 602-strong crowd.

The first half was incredibly tense, with the visitors enjoying the majority of the territory and possession.

They eventually found a way through, with No.8 Nick Timoney bursting through to score under the poles, but those were to be their only points on the night.

The DHL Stormers had two shots at goal from Manie Libbok go wide in the first half and pushed for a try just before the break, but it was not to be as Ulster went into half-time 7-0 up.

The DHL Stormers came out firing in the second half, but were frustrated by a number of crucial handling errors.

Evan Roos looked to have scored, but the TMO referral showed that his grounding had been just short.

The replacements bench made a big difference as the Ulster players began to tire and the pressure eventually translated into points as Libbok kicked a penalty from right in front after a huge scrum from Frans Malherbe.

The Irish side were reduced to 14 men when flank David McCann was shown a yellow card for a cynical slap-down in the 22.

The DHL Stormers continued to press and were finally rewarded as Roos scored from a maul to put them in front for the first time in the 73rd minute.

Libbok nailed the touchline conversion and added a penalty after the hooter to seal what was a hard-fought win in the end.
