DHL Stormers go down in Glasgow

The DHL Stormers were unable to overturn a first-half deficit and went down 20-9 against Glasgow Warriors for their first defeat of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship season.

Despite being reduced to 13 men by two yellow cards late in the first half, the visiting team dominated proceedings in the second half at Scotstoun Stadium, but were unable to find a way through the Glasgow defence in a pointless second 40 minutes.

The opening exchanges were tense, with both teams battling to find any continuity. The DHL Stormers opened the scoring with a penalty from Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu who had won the ball at the breakdown.

The home side responded with a try from Sione Tuipulotu, to put them in front.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu kicked two more penalties in the first half, but there were two maul tries from Glasgow hooker Johnny Matthews to give them a 20-9 advantage at the break.

The DHL Stormers were reduced to 13 men late in the second half, through yellow cards for Evan Roos and Joseph Dweba, which made the second Matthews try something of a formality.

The visitors camped in opposition territory for much of the second half, but found no joy as the Glasgow team held out through a series of penalties in the 22.

The DHL Stormers now head to Italy where they will face Benetton Treviso next week.
