Despite recording their 2nd win in as many starts, both coach Allister Coetzee and captain Jean De Villiers, expressed dissatisfaction with the performance.

“No excuses – it was ugly, but whilst we need to fix things, it’s good to keep winning.” Said the coach at the presser after the match.

“Whilst the heat was a factor and the ball was slippery, we are pro sportsmen and we have to adapt to the conditions. The way we played tonight is not good enough to win the competition” Added the captain. “We couldn’t get any momentum today and it was frustrating. Every time we got in range, a penalty was conceded and we took the points. At the end of the day we won and on the log that’s what counts. “

Explaining the tightly fought contest Coetzee commented, “Derby games are always tight – the guys know each other and each other’s systems so well, it’s really difficult to score. Both teams are also strong defensively and it showed with not a lot of space out there.”

Peter Grant was awarded man of the match and Coetzee was complimentary of his 10’s play, “I am very happy with Peter’s game today. He kicked well out of hand and at poles and was good in general play and defence. We happy to have him back.”

Next week the DHL Stormers take on a rampant Highlanders side buoyed by a big away win at Loftus. “We will need to be psychologically ready and have much to work on this week.” Concluded the coach.
