LIVE: London Irish v DHL Stormers

When these two sides met in Cape Town in December, the DHL Stormers picked up a 34=14 bonus point win. It will be a bigger challenge this afternoon against an in-form London Irish side on their home turf.

It is chilly and overcast but dry in London for this lunchtime kick-off, so hopefully conditions will allow for an open and entertaining game. Some sunshine in London, so hopefully we are in for a good game.

0 – Action underway and both teams kicking early and looking for territory.

2 – Dweba caught offside so LI kick into the 22. Stolen by Orie so we can clear it as the rain starts falling.

4 – Won on the ground by Kitshoff so Libbok kicks long and both teams exchange kicks. Willemse finds touch over halfway.

6 – High ball lost forward in the 22 so LI have a scrum. Charged down by Nel in midfield, he races away and gets the offload to Davids, but he knocks it on. LI have another scrum, but in their own 22 this time.

10 – High ball and Hartzenberg is obstructed so we can kick into their half.

12 – Line-out infringement from LI so we have a scrum on the 22. LI offside this time so Libbok kicks into the corner.

14 – A strong maul is pulled down and the referee is off towards the poles to give a penalty try and make it 7-0.

16 – LI with a scrum just outside the 22, but we win the penalty and take it quickly.

17 – An incredible backline move opens them right up. It goes out to Angelo Davids who scores in the corner, but the TMO calls it back for a forward pass.

18 – London Irish fullback Ben Loader shown a red card for a high tackle on Manie Libbok who has to leave the field and is replaced by Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.

20 – Lost forward in the tackle by Willemse and LI approach the 22.

22 – Loose ball snapped up and cleared by Willemse. LI have to come again from halfway.

25 – Opportunity to kick at goal for LI, but it goes wide.

27 – High ball lost forward so LI are back on the attack. Breakdown turnover from Deon Fourie so we can kick into their half.

29 – LI win a breakdown penalty this time so they can exit from their 22.

31 – Ruhan Nel with the intercept try to make it 14-0.

35 – Scrum on the 22 and we go wide as we look to stretch the defence.

38 – The kick through from Feinberg-Mngomezulu is picked up and finished by Hartzenberg for our third try.

40 – We lead 21-0 at half-time and firmly in the driving seat in London.

42 – Second half back underway and we are looking for the bonus-point try. 50-22 from LI and they are on our tryline, but crucial turnover from Deon Fourie again.

43 – Another red card for LI for a dangerous clean-out on Fourie. So they are down to 13.

46 – The chip ahead from Dan du Plessis and he gets a boot to the ball. Angelo Davids goes through to score the bonus point try and make it 28-0.

50 – Home side get their first points with a maul try which also sees our skipper Steven Kitshoff shown a yellow card.

54 – Stop-start with both teams making errors. We have a scrum near halfway and will look to launch another attack as the replacements come in.

56 – More progress up the right and we win a breakdown penalty and kick to the corner.

58 – Ball lost on a technicality and LI try to run from their own half.

62 – Penalty given away at the breakdown, so LI kick into our half. Can we come up with a fifth try here?

63 – We get the scrum after a line-out infringement and will come from our half this time.

65 – We kick deep and LI run it up to halfway as they look for a second try.

67 – Obstruction call against us so LI kick into the 22. Throw is not straight, so we have a scrum.

69 – LI get a free kick and run at us in the 22, but it is ripped away and we get a penalty to clear it.

71 – another knock-on from LI, so we have another scrum.

73 – Scrum penalty but the throw is not straight from Venter, so LI have a scrum in their own half this time.

75 – Offside called against us, so LI kick to the corner as they continue to press for a second try.

77- Home team force their way over from close range for their second try.

80 – We are over for the fifth try, but Ruhan Nel loses control as he goes to ground it and it is disallowed. That’s the game as we take a full house of five log points.
